Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking

Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trekking lies in Annapurna conservation area. Poon Hill Trek begings after the short drive to nayapul. Historically, Ghorepani used to be a rest stop for traders. Since water was found in abundance, the place proved to be an excellent spot for traders to feed their horses and take a nap themselves. The ancient rest stop lies in Myagdi district in the Dhaulagiri zone which falls in the western region of Nepal. The village lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) and is a major trail that links several other villages as well as the Annapurna Base Camp. Ghorepani has a number of guest houses that provide food and lodging to trekkers and travelers alike.

Easy and shot trekking trails within the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA), Ghorepani Poon Hill treks is perfect for first time trekkers who want to experience the pleasure of walking in the mountain trails and see snow-clad mountains up-close but are still not ready to traverse rougher trails. The trek starts from Naya Pul, which is an hour drive from Pokhara and offers an easier route than Dhampus Phedi. The trail then passes through the villages of Birethanti, Hille, Tikhedhunga, Ulleri, Banthanti, and Nanggethani before reaching the village of Ghorepani. Ghorepani is situated at an altitude of 2285 meters.

The upper part of Ghorepani is known as Ghorepani Deurali which is another place that treats your eye to panoramic view of the Annapurna mountains. After a nights rest at Ghorepani Deurali, the next stop is Poon Hill which is a forty minutes walk from Ghorepani. This will be the highest spot in the trek (3210 m) and many trekkers spend the night at the Ghorepani village before a pre-dawn trek to the top of Poon Hill, which offers the most exquisite view of the sunrise as it touches the snow-capped summits of Mt.Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt Annapurna (8091m) and a range of other mountain peaks that gradually appear before your eyes.

The villages that fall in this Ghorepani-Poon hill trek are largely inhabited by the Gurungs and Magars. Dense rhododendron forests with chirping birds and deep sub-tropical valley all set below the Annapurna with the picturesque view of Mt Macchapucchre greets you along the way.

Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking makes a small loop in Annapurna foot hill and back passes through Gurung Hill and Ghandruk ends at Birethanti/Nayapul from where we take a bus to Pokhara. Ghorepani Poon hill trekking also called Annapurna balcony trekking in Nepal.
