One of the wildest and highest trekking spot in the Himalayas is actually in Tibet. Khatra Valley with Namtso Lake Trekking is one of those wilderness treks in an isolated region where very few trekkers visit every year. The highlights of Kharta Valley trek is a visit to Everest Base Camp (5150m) on the Chinese side and Namtsolake (4718m).
Located near Mt. Everest on Tibet side, Kharta valley is an ensemble of Khangseung valley, Karma valley, Rongbuk Monastery, Everest Base Camp and a couple of passes over 5000m. The turquoise blue Namtsolake is the highest lake not only in Tibet but also in the world. It is also the second largest salt lake in China. The route goes through Kharta Valley, Everest Base Camp, Tingri, Shigatse, Pethang, Ringmo, and Namtso Lake.
The Base camp offers you a breathtaking north face of Mt. Everest along with Rongbuk valley and Rongbuk monastery. The crossing of Largen-La pass at an altitude of 5190m, one of the highest Himalayan passes, is a thrilling challenge for any one. Namtso Lake is hemmed in by the majestic Nyenchen Tanglha mountain. Shigatse, Dingri and Kharta valley gives you an opportunity to experience Tibetan culture.
This trek is possible only during Spring and Autumn season when the snowfalls are low and weather is comparatively warm. The only way to access this trek is to start the journey from Lhasa, which is 2 hrsflight from Kathmandu.
