Rara lake Trekking

Rara Lake Trekking is in the lower dolpo trekking region in the far western part of nepal. Situated at a height of 2990 meters above sea level, Rara Lake lies in the centre of the Rara National Park. The Park is home to many animals including the gaur, serow, musk deer, yellow-throated martin and a wide variety of birds such as the impeyan pheasant, kalij and dove. Global Adventure Trekking highly recommends this trek to people who want to set on an off the beaten path kind of trek.

Rara Lake trek begins from Jumla, the largest upland hill town in the west of Nepal. The trail goes through ancient villages with signs of traditional Tibetan culture and traditions and well- preserved eco-system of plants and forests of pine, oak and juniper. The Rara National Park is surrounded by Trans- Himalayan valley with high ridges covered with forest and alpine pastures. Being among the local people with their distinctive culture and traditions, gives the visitor a unique experience and makes for a wonderful holiday. If a tourist is lucky enough, he/she will most likely spot endangered mammals like the blue sheep, snow leopard and the Himalayan musk deer. Its upon reaching Numala Pass that the panoramic sights of the Dhaulagiri, Kugung La and Khyung La come to view. As you make your way forward towards Rara Lake, Nepals largest lake lying at an altitude of 2980m and also the focal point of the entire trekking trip, one can afford to view the outstanding snow-capped panorama of Dolpo and other great mountains overshadowing the scene across the deep clear waters of the Rara Lake. The trail will also take you through glassy alpine pastures and remote villages with monasteries and prayer flags and will offer you superb views over Mugu, the southern mountains of Humla and the border ranges of Tibet.

The western region is less developed as compared to other parts of the country. Due to its tough terrain, development hasnt reached this part of the country especially the Far West region. The areas are more remote and hence, trekking becomes exploratory and a little harder and unpredictable. The team of Global Adventure Trekking with its hands-on approach is always there to help if there is any hiccup during the trip. Ethnic groups of people seen in the northern parts of the area, particularly in Dolpa are of Tibetan origin. Other ethnicities such as Magar, Gurung and Brahmin people also live in the area.

Because of its constant up and down trails and Rara Lake Trek is one of Nepals most demanding treks, so it is heavily recommended for skilled trekkers. Summer is the ideal time for Dolpo trekking.
