Upper Dolpo Trekking

Upper Dolpo trekking is a truly mystical region in Nepal. Dolpo lies on the Tibetan Plateau separated from other parts of the country by a barrier of high mountains, deep gorges, and thick forests. Upper Dolpo trek is a customizable trekking according to the requirement of our valued clients. This long wilderness trek that lets you explore the wide variety of landscape and a culture filled with unique customs and tradition. You will travel through the highest inhabited land in the country, experience the traditional Tibetan culture and rejoice in the isolation of nature.

Upper Dolpo trekking is perfect place to know and study about Tibetan culture and traditional. Several years back Upper Dolpo was a part of Tibet and hence, the terrain of this region is extremely similar to that of its northern neighbor. Most of the trekking will be done through treeless, wind-swept desert like landscapes, high passes, and incredible gorges. The trek is remote, rugged, unspoiled and inspiring, making it one of the best treks around the Himalayan region. Due to its rough topography, development hasnt reached Dolpo. It continues to be the least developed district of Nepal with few tourists setting on treks to Dolpo, mostly deterred by strict government restrictions to preserve the culture and ecosystem of the region which is valuable and remains untouched. The entire district was closed to trekkers until 1989 when the southern part of Dolpo was opened to organized trekking groups. The trek to Upper Dolpo is a wonderful adventure, along the trekking you will pass fluttering flag, Mani wall, Chorten, serene forest of pines, oaks and rhododendron, gigantic mountain ranges and experience a unique culture. Global Adventure Trekking ensures to follow good trails throughout the trek. This region is thinly vegetated, dry and only few settlements are found here. Other remarkable objects are ancients and isolated villages, immortal to time, fabulous lakes, authentic Buddhist monasteries and abundant wildlife. Since 1984, Dolpo region has been the countrys largest national park and conservation area, home to wild life including Musk Deer, Himalayan Blue Sheep and the legendary Snow Leopard.

The introduction of Dolpo to the West can be credited to Tibetologists Giuseppe Tucci and David Snellgrove, who published accounts of their journeys through Dolpo in the mid- 1950s. Their accounts made Dolpo known to the West. Another person responsible for increasing the attraction of this region is Peter Matheson whose book- The Snow Leopard and Snell grove- Himalayan pilgrimage has given the region much deserved publicity. Global Adventure Trekking manages treks to Upper Dolpo. We suggest you to choose to trek here during summer as winters are notoriously cold with heavy snowfalls. Summer season is the best time to trek in Dolpo due to rain shadow area.
