Rara Lake Trek Itinerary
Outline Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival and transfer to Hotel in Kathmandu (1,350 m)
Upon scheduled arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, we will be greeted by Global Adventure Trekking Company (GAT) personnel and transferred to the hotel. Checking in and if time consent visit GAT’s office for pre-trip briefing and meet the Guide. Then free to wander around Thamel.
Day 02: Kathmandu Fly to Nepalgunj (150 m)
We take an hour-long flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. It is an interesting western Terai town of Nepal nearby India border. We visit the local market, explore the diverse culture of locality, mini-zoo and nearby villages.
Day 03: Nepalgunj fly to Jumla (2,350 m) and trek to Uthgaun (2,550 m)
After breakfast, we leave the lowland of Nepalgunj taking a scenic flight to the Jumla Airport. Jumla is the gateway of remote Karnali region of Nepal with beautiful hilly landscape lies on the foothills of the Sisne Himalaya.
Subsequently, our trek begins from here (Jumla) by ascending to Uthgaun along the Jogad Khola. On the way, we pass Khalanga Bazzar, a small market place for the nearby villages then a couple of villages and a temple before reaching Uthgaun.
Day 04: Uthugaon Trek to Danphe Lagna (3,500 m)
Today we follow narrow canyon to the village of Chauriachaur. Then trek goes uphill to cross Danphe Lagna pass at 3,680 m. The path continues descent through the fir and pine forest to Danphe Lagna.
Day 05: Danphe Lagna Trek to Chauta (2,800 m)
Our trek descends steeply through the fir, birch, and walnut forest. After crossing the suspension bridge follow steep uphill to Kabra - the boulder which is the source of Silajit means a mineral which is believed to have a ‘healing’ property. Then again keep ascending until we arrive at Chuata besides Choura Khola.
Day 06: Chauta trek to Dhotu (2,400 m)
We are trekking into Rara national park and many endanger animals might encounter. Mostly we are going uphill to Ghurchi Lagna pass (3,450 m) where you can see many Mane Chorten and prayer flags. Afterwards, the path gently descends to Dhotu village.
Day 07: Dhotu Trek to Rara Lake (3,000 m)
Our day is much excited with the views of the Himalayan panorama, local Thakuri village, the great viewpoint of Rara Lake and the ancient pagoda temple along the way that leads us to the vast and tranquil Rara Lake.
Day 08: Rest Day - Explore Rara Lake
Explore the clam and blue waters of the massive Rara Lake also known as Mahendra Taal (Lake) after late king Mahendra. Enjoy the views of Chuchemara Peak on the south and Ruma Kand and Malika Kand peaks on the north of Rara Lake.
Day 09: Rara Lake Trek to Ghorashinga (3,050 m)
After exploring the Rara lake, we start to descend through the Khayar river. Ahead we pass Chhapri village and cross the Chuchamare Danda (hill), then descend to reach Ghorashinga.
Day 10: Ghorashinga Trek to Sinja (2,400 m)
Follow the Ghatte Khola till small Laha village where we stop for Lunch and checkout from the police check-post. Again we descend relatively easy track down to Sinja Village.
Day 11: Sinja Trek to Jaljala (3,300 m)
From Sinja descend to Dhobighat and follow the Ghatte Khola until Garja then strolls steep uphill to Chalachaur. Again keep ascending to Jaljala.
Day 12: Jaljala Trek back to Jumla
The day begins with uphill to Jaljala-La pass and down through meadow and pleasant descend to Jumla. This is a long day to walk but beautiful scenery.
Day 13: Jumla fly to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu
Take an early morning flight to Nepalgunj and then a connecting flight to Kathmandu. Once in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel.
Day 14: Buffer day in Kathmandu
This is a free and Leasure day in Kathmandu. You are free to walk around Thamel or we can arrange the Kathmandu city tour includes UNESCO world heritage sights - Monkey Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupati Nath Temple and Bouddhanath Stupa.
Day 15: Final Departure
According to your flight schedule, our staff will drop you to the airport.
