About Tibet

Tibet is known as the ‘roof of the world’, Tibet is the highest place on earth with average altitude of 4000m. It is part of Southwestern China and its south border is lined by the world’s tallest mountains, including Chomolungma or Mt. Everest. Tibet is extremely rich in history and culture and is predominantly a Buddhist country along with Bon (pre-Buddhist) tradition.

Tibet is inhabited by many ethnic groups such as Monpas, Qiang, Tamak, Lhobas, Hui and Han people. Many of these people are either farmers or nomads who make a subsistence living by rearing yaks or growing cereals. Tibet has long been a center and stronghold for Tibetan Buddhism.

The landscape is absolutely breathtaking with beautiful lakes, green hills and exotic mountains surrounding every part of the province. Kangri Rimpoche or Mt. Kailash, Mapam Yumtso or Mansarovar Lake, Yarlung Tsangpo River, Yamdruk lake, Namtso Lake are the natural and religiously sacred landmarks of Tibet. Lhasa, the administrative capital of Tibet province, hosts such remarkable heritage sites as Potala palace, Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple, Norbulinka palace and Drepung Monastery.
